Work with documents in Chat

Give Chat the current document, explicit references, and Space context.

Chat can work within the current Space, using the active document, explicit references, and available tools as context.

Chat with document context

Three useful request patterns

Ask directly:

Create a writing plan for today.

Use the current document:

Summarize the main ideas in the current document in five bullets.

Reference a specific document:

Use the referenced document to create an action list with
task, owner, due date, and risk.

Type @ in Chat to select a whole document. If only one passage matters, select it in the editor and reference the selection.

State the task and constraints

A practical template is:

Use the current document to complete: [task].
Requirements: [tone, format, length, or emphasis].
If information is missing, list the questions I need to answer first.

Keep one topic per conversation. A long-running project can keep a main conversation, while temporary questions belong in new ones. When a task requests shell access or external tools, review the action and impact before approving it.

Chat is a collaborator, not a source of truth. Verify important facts, numbers, links, quotations, and commitments before writing them back.
